Modern Medicine (a free-flow poem)

Here is a quick fire free-flow poem I wrote in a few minutes. Sometimes stream of consciousness writing is the most authentic, and fun to create!

Meditation, masturbation
Each to their own brand of medication
Be is spirituality, be it sugar
Is one better than the other?
Whatever it takes to get us through
Whatever it takes to make you, you
How do you get your daily hit?
A facebook post or a caffeine fix
Love Island or Jeremy Kyle
A dose of sanity, for a while
Fast paced speech or slow and steady
Right now, or when you’re ready
Netflix binge, casual sex or ‘chill’
Modern medicine in a pill
Herbs were there at the start of time
Flavour food or make you feel fine?
Iburprofen for that, paracetomol for this
Drink enough water, colour of your piss
Searching for something, feeling lost
Quick fire happiness, but at what cost?
Evolving, developing, making progress
Yet we regress, making sense of the mess
Take a step back, admire the view
Switch off the phone in company, too
Make eye contact, hear what they say
Carpe diem, seize the day
Use words to make you feel fine
Don’t presume you have infinite time
Modern world with infinite choice
Do you still have a voice?
